Upgrade 16.4 to 16.5

Introduction

Goal

Upgrade a Bloomreach Experience Manager implementation project from version 16.4.x to 16.5.y.

Significant Changes

This release includes several key updates:

  • The Experience Manager application frontend has been fully migrated from AngularJS to Angular, resulting in a more secure, maintainable, and responsive user interface.
  • Significant performance improvements have been introduced in v16.4.2 and v16.5.0  to speed up content folder navigation, document detail loading, and sitemap generation for Experience Pages. See the 16.4.2 release notes for upgrade steps.
  • The BrXM AI Content Assistant's capabilities have been expanded to include support for Google's Vertex AI Gemini and Ollama models, as well as the ability to use images as a primary context.
  • Checker Tool Index Export: Index management has been enhanced by adding a new indexexport command to the JCR consistency checker tool, which allows you to export Lucene indexes from the command line for backups and maintenance. This feature is part of a larger architectural improvement that consolidates index-related functionality within the Jackrabbit core.

See the 16.5.0 release notes for a full list.

Upgrade Steps

Perform Generic Minor Upgrade Steps

Follow the generic instructions for minor upgrades.

Check Custom Project Code for Incompatibilities With Upgraded Libraries

Because of third party library upgrades that may introduce backward compatibility issues, there's a chance that project code doesn't build or run well any more. In that case, look into the specifics and adjust the project code to use the latest library correctly.
